Batman: Guardian of Gotham Wiki

The Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane, more commonly called Arkham Asylum is a mental hospital which also acts as a prison. It is located in the outskirts of Gotham City.

Arkham Asylum is located outside Gotham City. It was founded by Amadeus Arkham who named the asylum after his mother, Elizabeth Arkham. Arkham had a dark history. in the early 1900s a patient by the name of Martin "Mad Dog" Hawkins was brought to Arkham to be treated. Mad Dog escaped and found Amadeus's house and murdered his wife and carved his name into her body. Mad Dog was captured and brought back to Arkham Asylum where Amadeus personally treated him. Amadeus straped him to an electro shock couch and perposelly electocuted him. The staff treated the death as an accident. Amadeus was committed to the asylum where he slowley decended into mental illness, which he believed was his birthright. Amadeus was a patient at his own asylum where he died.

Corruption In The Asylum[]

Several doctors that worked for the Asylum also worked for either Lew Moxon or Black Mask. Jonathan Crane was a psychiatrist that worked for the asylum. He would experiment on the inmates with his Fear Gas. Hugo Strange was hired after Crane a.k.a. Scarecrow was committed. Strange would use the inmates to test his mind reading machine and would also turn them into what he call "Monster Men."

Massive Breakouts[]

When Bane first arrived in Gotham City his plan was to weaken Batman then defeat him. To do this Bane caused a breakout at Arkham so that Batman would become weak after battleing all the escaped crinminals. After Bane did this he fought the Dark Knight and broke Batman's his back.
